The main goal of the Music program at SEV is give all students an experience and an understanding of music that will lead to a lifetime appreciation for it and its role in our lives.
By participating in a wide variety of activities which focus on the four major areas of composing, listening, performing and researching, we hope that our students will come to recognize the value of music in our lives and to appreciate it in its many different forms and styles.
The program from Grade 1 to 8 is built around the central concepts of Rhythm, Melody, Form, Tone Color, Dynamics and Harmony. The sub-concepts within each of these will, of course, vary in terms of the scope and the level of difficulty according to the Grade level. The program is structured vertically so that each level builds on the concepts learned in the previous level. In addition to the classroom work, the students are given the opportunity at all grade levels to demonstrate the skills they have learned through performance clubs, two yearly concerts and joint performance projects in conjunction with the English program at each grade level.
We have been involved in music projects at the international level. In the lower grades we worked together with schools in Austria, Belgium and Poland as part of the Eurosound project.
