Science education enables our students to be open minded, to have a wider perspective for their environment and be efficient problem solvers. 

OBJECTIVIES:

The goal of the Science and Technology Department is to equip the students with the current scientific information, as well as basic concepts in biology, chemistry and physics which would lead them to higher level thinking and researching. Science education enables our students to be open minded, to have a wider perspective for their environment and be efficient problem solvers. Through this course students acquire skills that help them evaluate the impact of science on humanity, environment and technology.

The vision of the department is to educate students to be literate in science, who can realize the nature of technology, know scientific key concepts, apply the steps of research process, establish relations between science and environment, improve their intellectual-motor skills and develop positive attitude for scientific values.

PROGRAM:

n the science curriculum the course is structured on seven learning areas. Through the middle school, the same areas are covered in different dimension and depth. Mainly there are four units and the skills integrated in the units; Life and Living things, Matter and Different Phases of Matter, Physical Events, Earth and Space. The program is orientated towards project work and individual discovery, so students develop their skills of investigation and analysis.

One of the most important components of Science Education is working in the laboratory. All classes go to science lab on regular base, in split groups to have the opportunity for experimental work. Starting from grade two, all students are expected to do a research project which they follow the scientific method.

ACTIVITIES:

There are many related cross curricular activities happening at school, such as Eco-Schools project, Space Camp visits, First Lego League- ROBOTICS and NASA- Partner School Science Project. Students at İzmir SEV present their scientific research projects and findings at the project exhibitions and at the SEV Schools Project Fair.
