As  part of our intercultural awareness program, all middle school students attended ‘The Story of Halloween Assembly’ on Tuesday, Ocober 31. West Hall English faculty presented the historical origins of Halloween and how it is celebrated in different parts of the world interactively using videos, songs and live performances.

On Wednesday, November 1, the 7th grade students at SEV Izmir participated in a Cultural Awareness Halloween Activity Day. The students started this project by writing their own Halloween themed spooky stories then taking part in authentic Halloween activities.  The students gained a greater awareness of the culture of Halloween through the hands on emersion event. Some of the activities that were included were a scarecrow mask build, masked relay race, mummy wrap-up contest, spooky floating donut challenge, monster bowling, monster ball feed test, and the classic bobbing for apples.

The goal is raising students’ awareness of other cultures’ holidays and festivities and to instill an appreciation for multiculturalism.
