English lessons at our school aim not only to teach language skills but also to equip our students with the life skills necessary for the century they live in. 21st Century Skills, which is one of 7th grade English lessons, aims for this goal.

In our day, students use websites instead of print based resources as they are easier to access and much more convenient. Unfortunately, besides reliable websites, there are a lot of websites that contain invalid information. For this reason, students all around the world are educated on website evaluation criteria. In 21st Century Skills lessons, after learning website evaluation criteria, our 7th grade students evaluated various websites and prepared leaflets in order to inform our 5th graders on the subject. While preparing their leaflets, our students focused on the question “What makes a website safe and useful for research?” Our students are now learning how to write and analyze news reports and by the end of the unit they will have learnt the criteria needed to differentiate fake news from real news.
