As a member of Eco-schools and as  part of our environmental literacy program, we challenge our students to engage in tackling environmental problems at a level where they can see tangible results, spurring them on to realise that they really can make a difference. In grade 7 Core English classes this year, after learning about hydroponic and aquaponics systems, our students were asked to choose a global problem that they can solve by using a hydroponic system of their own custom design. In another project, they were asked to create their own household aquaponics system by choosing the best working vegetable and fish to use in the system. The solutions that our students came up with, instilled hope in us about the future of our planet.
