104 Debbie Polat Personalısed Learnıng - Homework Grade two teachers decided to trial a new homework approach in the second term. Our aim was to maximize and extend every student’s learning by engaging them in activities using their own learning styles. We decided to give the students a choice of how they presented their homework based on the week’s phonics sounds for the spelling quiz. We brainstormed together the different ways that the students could present their homework such as by making a mini book, a fortune teller, flashcards, designing a board game or writing a story. So far we have had positive responses from the students who have enjoyed the more creative options they have been given. Rüya USLU I wrote my own story because I’m interested in books. I learnt some new words about the ‘er’ sound. In our reading lessons we also work on ‘er’ literacy centers. I like it when we read in small groups with our teacher. Berk DEMİRAL I like this homework because you have a choice. This homework is better because I can make a fortune teller and also write the spelling words for the week. I can play the game with my friends. I like learning and I enjoy making fortune tellers. Aksel ATINÇ I like this new homework style because I can choose how to complete my homework. This week we worked on the ‘er’ words in our phonics lessons. I’m going to do different things every week. Batuhan AKTAŞ I like both types of homework. I chose to write a story for the ‘er’ words because it is fun. I read a lot of books and I love writing stories and drawing pictures. Fulya Joys KARADUMAN I want to learn and I like new ideas. I can learn much better when I write and draw. I like this new type of homework, I hope we can continue.
