120 Burçak Çapkan Balance In Nature Project This year in Grade 3 English lessons, we learned a lot about earth and plants in our Balance in Nature interdisciplinary project. It is a very effective and eye-opener project where all the subjects work together to teach us the importance of plants to humans and all other life on Earth. We also focused on 3 R’s- reduce, reuse and recycle. It is a tremendously serious issue especially now that we waste more than ever! Students research on photosynthesis and plants. The National Geographic and our library books taught us a lot! They also brought all different kinds of leaves from home and examined them under the microscope and noticed how different they all were. A mind map was also made about what they can reuse, reduce and recycle on IPADs. They even kept track of how many plastic items they waste in a week and shared this information with their friends. Did you know that it takes 1000 years to decompose a plastic bag? Through research and interest this project became more meaningful for our students. We all love nature and our world and now it’s time for us to take action and create global awareness. Now let’s hear what our students have got to say about it! Masal Su ZAVRAK We learned science in English. Now we know all the vocabulary about it! It was a little bit tricky, especially to spell photosynthesis, but we did it! And that’s not all! The most exciting part when we acted that out! We pretended we were the plants and we showed how it takes sunlight energy from the sun, water from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air and make oxygen. If the plants didn’t make photosynthesis, we wouldn’t have the oxygen to breathe! So don’t cut down the trees, plant more trees!
