It is a way to become an active, more concerned global citizen, while in this era of globalization, being globally aware is more important than ever. Sırma Göknur Lara BUDAK Hello. My name is Lara and this is my first year in JMUN. I think I’m lucky to start JMUN in 6th grade. I was an admin last year and that encouraged me to join JMUN. I have been to two conferences, one was Ekin JMUN and the other one was Tarsus JMUN. They were different from each other because Ekin was Harvard Style and Tarsus SEV was THIMUN. They were both challenging in different ways. Firstly, I will tell you about Ekin JMUN. It was the first conference that we attended. I was so excited and nervous. I was there to learn the basics of JMUN and just to have a good conference in my first experience. It was Harvard Style and there were points and motions to have mock debates. My committee was United Nations Women. (UNW or Women Rights) My country was Venezuela. Ekin JMUN was three days long. My first experience was awesome! Secondly, I will tell you about my second conference, Tarsus SEV. Tarsus SEV was in a different style. It was THIMUN. Tarsus SEV was two days long but it was full of committee sessions. My committee was Human Rights and my country was Chile. Unlike Ekin JMUN, we wrote our resolutions at the start of the conference. It was fun but it was a lot of work so I had a headache on my first day. Even though I didn’t get an award, best delegate or honorable delegate, this was a really good conference and I am very happy to experience both Harvard Style and THIMUN. Volkan ALTINDAĞ Hello, I am Volkan from 6th Grade JMUN team. I have joined the JMUN team because I was an admin in our annual SEVJMUN conference, and also our Language Arts teacher at the time, Mr. Park had introduced JMUN to everyone by doing a mock JMUN in our class. I expected JMUN to be easy, but it came out that you had to be prepared in order to attend the conferences, or you wouldn’t have enough information during the conference. There were a lot of challenges during research and the conference. While researching it was difficult to find the information that we wanted. During the conference, we ran into words that we didn’t know, some of the words were so important, and at first we were confused because we didn’t know some words. I liked that it was like the real United Nations, we had to start preparing at least a month before the conference. I felt disappointed when I wasn’t assigned the country I wanted but then I realized it didn’t really matter. I wrote most of the resolution in my first conference, and a few bits in the second one. In Ekin JMUN, the building was covered with flags of many different countries, it felt like we were in a real conference. There were a lot of countries for each committee, it was pretty crowded. Since I was Venezuela and it was the last country alphabetically in my committee, I was way in the corner. In Tarsus SEV JMUN, I was the country Chile and we had huge classrooms in huge buildings, next to Tarsus American College. Ekin JMUN was 3 days, and Tarsus SEV JMUN was 2 days. Most of the time I was comfortable, and I also made new friends.
