23 Pamir BAYKAL Hello, My name is Pamir. This year I joined the JMUN club. JMUN is about politics and world problems. I didn’t know much about these but I wanted to challenge myself. That’s why I joined JMUN I expected JMUN to be a fun club, like I would come to the club, start chatting and go on some trips… But it wasn’t like that. You have to do a lot of work. JMUN is serious business! First, I didn’t know much about countries and when I first got my country, I needed to do a lot of research. We first did researched on our countries for like 3 weeks. Then, we started working on our committees. We were ready for our first conference (Ekin JMUN). The challenges of JMUN is you need to use your brain a lot! For example, doing research and writing a resolution was hard. I had so many questions on my mind. That’s why I was scared on my first conference. JMUN was fantastic. First, I said I should not be here, but after my first conference I wasn’t scared. In our first conference (EKIN JMUN), my country was Gabon and my committee was UNODC (United Nations Office on Drug and Crime). Everyone was quiet probably because it was everyone’s first conference but I challenged myself and talked. Two of my friends won awards! Our second conference was Tarsus SEV. It was a beautiful school! In that conference, my country was Spain and my committee was Human Rights. JMUN was a great experience for me! Eda YAVAŞ Hello, I’ m Eda Yavaş. I’m one of the SEV JMUN’ers. When I was in 5th grade, Mr. Park was the JMUN Club’s teacher. He showed us how to debate and told us a little bit about the JMUN procedure. Some of our friends took part in our school’s JMUN conference as the admins. To make it short, Mr. Park was the one who helped me love JMUN and join the JMUN club. When we were going to our first conference in Izmir, I was expecting a place like the TBMM where there is a center in which the president sits, then some chairs around it where delegates of many countries come and debate on one topic, but it wasn’t like what I expected. We were all in different classes and we couldn’t see each other and our advisors. My first conference was pretty fun. For our second conference, we had to travel to Adana. We went to TAC (Tarsus American College). It was like a wonderland. We stayed at Adana Hilton and it was wonderful. We had our debates but this conference was Harvard style so it was a bit different.I still liked it though. Now we’re getting ready to go to our 3rd conference in Ted Antalya. I’m sure it is going to be wonderful like the other two! Alya ERKUT My name is Alya Erkut. I am in 6D. This year I am in the JMUN club. When I was in fifth grade, my English teacher supported me to join JMUN club. I thought that it was going to be a difficult club. In our first class, I was so nervous. Before our first conference, the seventh graders helped us prepare. There were many challenges. For example, when we first started, we didn’t know most of the vocabulary. Also, we didn’t know how to debate, so it was hard for us to adapt. I like being a JMUNer because when you are experienced, you start to talk and share your ideas with the other JMUNers in conferences. Another good thing about being in the JMUN club is you have new friends from other schools! Our first conference was in Ekin Schools. Before the conference, the seventh graders helped us get prepared. When I went there I was so excited. Because it was my first conference, I didn’t talk that much, but it was a good experience. Our second conference was in Tarsus SEV which is our sister school. We prepared on our own for this conference. It was easier than the other conference because we had learnt how to be a good JMUNer. I recommend everyone to join the JMUN club!
