SEVECEN Sayı: 28 - 2019
25 World Scholar’s Cup 2018-2019 World Scholar’s Cup invites students into an exciting new world of discovery, diversion, dynamic debate - and alpacas! Our first semester started off familiarizing the students with the basics of debating: style, tone, volume, clarity, research, evidence, note-taking, and rebuttal, among many other topics. Students were divided into teams of 3 and debated a variety of topical issues, both local and global. After months of practice, SEV hosted the World Scholar’s Cup İzmir round on December 15th and 16th, 2018. Our school cleaned up, winning 248 medals and 7 trophies from almost every category. Many students earned multiple medals in multiple categories and were given the chance to showcase their writing, research, debate, and trivia skills in front of hundreds of their peers. Our second semester has seen us go deeper into the 2019 WSC Themes and Subjects while preparing for the global round in The Hague. Students have researched Unsolved Mysteries, On the Edge of Society, Enabling Technologies, and many other fascinating subjects during the past few months and have sharpened their skills in editing peer work, verifying sources, and working together. It’s been a wonderful year so far; we wish our young scholars the best of luck in the global round in July! Shawn J. Ward Neal Cooke Michael Bobal Mary Akdoğan Zuhal Eren
