293 Ozan Yiğit BEKTUR As 8 th grade students, we are under a lot of pressure. This play helped us to relax. I was the king in the play. I got the role that I wanted, so it made it more fun. Actually, first I thought that we were going to perform it at Blake Hall and I started to think that I wouldn’t be able to do it. When Mr. Bobal told us that we were going to perform in the Multi-Purpose Room, it made me feel good, but when we were performing, it was more exciting than I thought it would be. Even If I leave Izmir, I will remember this play. My mom recorded it, so when I grow up and watch it I will remember this class, our rehearsals, Mr. Bobal, and Ms. Göknur. Orhan Selim ABALIOĞLU This year in English LA, we put on a play about Red Riding Hood. I think that this is the best play I have participated in. Our characters were so funny and unique. I got nervous before the play, but when I finally memorized every line, I felt much more comfortable. We had very difficult scenes like when some people forgot their lines and we had an awkward silence. It wasn’t really difficult for me, but I don’t know how the other kids felt. But of course everyone forgot at least 1 or 2 lines, but we always moved on and we had a great play. When I got onto the stage, I felt really awkward and excited, but when I said my first line I thought I was doing really well so I felt really comfortable about the play. Michael Bobal WOOING WED WIDING HOOD Our intrepid 8 th graders worked extremely hard for almost 2 months on our play Wooing Wed Widing Hood in the middle of a hectic, stressful LGS prep year. Each class presented an original interpretation of the play, changing the roles and characters to make sure each performance was marvelous in its own way. We started out by reading the play through twice: once before choosing roles and once after. Students were given the opportunity to try out a variety of roles, voices, and acting styles during this period. After everyone was assigned a role, we worked on fitting the character to the student’s personality and memorizing the entire 30-page play. In class, we did a variety of activities that challenged students on topics ranging from pronunciation and diction to memorization techniques and costume design. Finally, after all the long weeks of rehearsal, blocking, and preparation, we performed for family, friends, and colleagues during the week of January 14 th , 2019. A small sampling of both funny and dramatic moments from each class have been featured in this collection.
