295 Michael Bobal 8th grade Language Arts Our second semester has focused on essay writing, literary analysis, and understanding different genres and literary techniques through the lens of Lois Lowry’s World War II novel Number the Stars. The midterm project, entitled Prediction & Prognostication, required students to use their understanding of character development, foreshadowing, imagery, and historical events to make accurate predictions regarding the plot of the final 8 chapters of Number the Stars and the eventual outcome of the book. Students took many different and creative approaches to the project – they used chapter titles, recurring events, and character descriptions to formulate their ideas, among many other strategies. The forms were also incredibly varied: the final products consisted of biographies, summaries, graphic novels, posters, pop-up books, and even an epistolary novel. We took pictures during both the drafting and creation stages of the project. Congratulations to every student who created a wonderful final product and worked so hard during this final grueling semester of 8 th grade.
