30 Leyal EKİZ The WSC Izmir round was such an amazing weekend. We had so much fun and learned a lot! You are going to ask what pwaa is. Well, it is a sound that a happy alpaca makes. I learned that at that weekend. For me, the first day was not that much fun, but we made the most of it. What we did was at first go to the opening ceremony - there everybody was very nervous. But when we saw the alpacas we went crazy forgetting our nervousness and we just wanted to get one of them. After the ceremony, we had our 3 debates. We had debates with challenging teams and we did well. Later that day we did collaborative writing and scholars challenge. Collaborative writing was not as difficult as it sounded. However, the Scholars Challenge was very hard. The second day was better than the first day. We did the scholars bowl which is a type of game show (like Kahoot), but harder than the normal game shows or Kahoots. We as a team did very well in that part. After that THEY GAVE US THE ALPACAS. I got a cream-colored alpaca. I named him ADRIEN. He was very cute!! Next was the talent show which was very fun to watch. Last was the Closing ceremony, very exciting! We won some medals and we had a chance to join the global round!!! We were very happy and we just had an amazing experience. As a school, we won 248 medals, 7 trophies and 15 of 16 teams qualified to go to the global round. Leyla DALAN My World Scholars Cup experience was a good one. On the first day, we had 3 debates, persuasive writing, and a test. In the writing they gave us 6 topics to write about and I chose the historical topic. The test was pretty challenging because I didn’t understand most of the questions. The first day was good. On the second day, we only had to do the scholars bowl, watch the scholars show, and the awards ceremony. The scholars bowl was like playing Kahoot in a big group. They give you a clicker to record your answers. In the scholars bowl, people from different schools showed us their talents. Some of my friends from our school showed their talents too. Next at the awards ceremony, I was so excited and curious to see if me and my team could win some medals and go to the global round. A few days before I was telling my mom that if I got a medal, I would be so happy. Then they called my name and I was so excited. When I got my medal, I looked at the screen again and there was my name again for another topic that we did as a team. I got more medals than I expected. Lastly, they announced who were able to go to the global rounds. When I looked at the screen and I saw my group’s number I started to scream - felt so happy that we could go to the global rounds. When the ceremony finished I realized my friends were screaming that they were going to the global rounds too. I felt so happy that I cried. I recommend this club to everyone who likes debating and writing. This was my World Scholars Cup experience. Ege KARATOSUN This year I chose WSC as a club because last year I had a great time in this club. I personally think this is the best club because you can improve your English, you can meet new friends, and you can visit other countries too. Last year, my friends and I went to Barcelona for the global round and we had a great time. To qualify for the Global Round, you first need to pass the round in Turkey. That round has been held at our school for 4 years now. The Turkish round is not so much hard compared to the Global Round. If you want to win medals WSC is the best place to be. The alpacas at the local round are small but at the Global round they are much bigger, and in the Yale round in USA they are enormous. Enis SANSOLO My WSC experience was very good and it was a lot of fun. At the Izmir round four of the WSC personnel told us about WSC. After that we had debates. Following that we gave our answers to some essay questions followed by an exam. On the second day we had the scholars challenge. They gave alpacas to everyone. Lastly, the presented the awards. We were so happy. I recommend this club and tournament to everyone.
