31 Maya ÇELEBİ This year at WSC we have learned a lot of things. The WSC tournament is where we debate, write, and complete a test that measures our knowledge. From this measurement we win awards and medals. The best part of the tournament was not this, it is the alpacas. They are the cutest and fluffiest creatures in the world. I think this club has really taught me things that will be important for me in the future. İpek ERGENECİ At WSC, we had Team Debates, Scholar’s Challenge, Scholar’s Bowl, and Collaborative Writing. For the Team Debates, we debated with other teams from other schools. In Collaborative Writing, we wrote essays on different topics and we helped our teammates write the best possible persuasive essay. In the Scholar’s Challenge, we completed a test without help or online resources. For the Scholar’s Bowl we did another test but this time as a team competing against the other teams. It was stressful, but it was worth it because I had a lot of fun. The questions were hard but it was fun when you learned the answers. Also if you put too much thought into it, you’re doing it wrong, you just needed to relax and answer with what you know. The best part for my team and I was when we learned that we were going to The Hague for the Global Rounds. I had a lot of good experiences that weekend. Jaki Hulli Dear Mr. Ward, Firstly, I want to thank all of my WSC teachers and especially to you. At the WSC regional tournament, I had a really extraordinary experience. I am very happy to be able to take part in such a nice and important event. To be honest, at the beginning, I was a little bit nervous and excited, but after some time I realized that this was not as difficult as I thought. Teamwork was very fun and it was very helpful to expand our knowledge base. Sincerely, Selin POSACIOĞLU Hello, my name is Selin. Today, I want to talk about the experience that I had in Worlds Scholar’s Cup. First of all, World Scholar’s Cup is a club where I had fun. It makes you a good debater, and I learned how to explain my ideas by debating with someone. Let me talk about the competition. First, we had the team debates. I was teamed with Damla and Ege. In the team debates, you have 15 minutes to research and prepare. Our team won 2 of the 3 debates. First, we debated with TED Ankara and then we debated with MEF International Schools. We lost that debate, but we learned so many things about how to be a better debater because they were really good at debating. In the afternoon, we did the collaborative writing portion where we wrote essays about different topics we choose. I wrote about kids having to use crypto-currency. While collaborating, you can write down notes in the first 25 minutes and then do some research in the next 45 minutes with some time left to write out your essay. After writing, we had the Scholars Challenge. I think it is the hardest part of the competition. The questions were all over the place, and you have to think very deeply or just guess because there are 120 questions and you only have 45 minutes to answer. On the next day, the first event was the Scholar’s Bowl. In the Scholar’s Bowl, you and your team have one clicker - a question is put on the screen and you have 15 seconds to answer it on your clicker. There was also a talent show. I played the piano there. It was an awesome feeling to play in front of everyone. During the debate showcase, the best speaker of each school debated. Then came the most exciting part of the competition: the Awards Ceremony. I won 4 medals and our school won 248 MEDALS and 7 TROPHIES! I learned so many things and had a really good experience. Thank you Mr. Ward, Mr. Cooke, and all of my teachers for supporting me!
