32 Melis SÜNER This year was my third year in WSC and like the other years I had a lot of fun. Let me start of by saying it was a great experience. All of us won a lot of medals and trophies, but more important than that we all created new and stronger friendships. We met new people from different schools. In WSC there are four different activities we do. First, Team Debates. In Team Debates we debate the motion they give us. As a group we make plans and write facts why the motion they give us is right or wrong and we debate it against our opponents. Next, we have Collaborative Writing where we work as a group to research a topic that each team member chooses and we write an essay about it. After that we have Scholars Challenge where we take an exam which is not easy at all. Last of all, we have the Scholars Bowl. In the end, we all have so much fun while doing these challenging activities. The most important thing is that we did all of these together and we adopted our very own alpaca. Selen SÖKMEN The WSC is a place where you prove your skills. In the WSC, you take part in four different exams. You debate with your team against other teams who you don’t know. After that, you do the collaborative writing, and scholar’s challenge. On the second day of the tournament, you participate in the scholar’s bowl in which you choose the answers with your friends. For me, everything was fun, but I especially enjoyed the debate. While we were studying, we were also learning new things we had never heard of before. So much more than what we learn in school. Also, I want to say that WSC is not a place where you only do academic things. You have fun with your friends and you meet new people. The most surprising parts for me was when I was recognized as first in science and when they said my name for Debate Showcase. Debate Showcase is a really scary thing when you first go up there, but then you start feeling good and you congratulate yourself for having done so well to be in the debate showcase. Even better yet was getting the medal!. They had hundreds of medals to give out. In the end, my team and I put the alpacas on our head and we laughed. The best time in my life so far was and is the time at WSC. Now I’m going to Holland. It is going to be so fun... Zeynep ÖZKAYALAR This year in World Scholar’s Cup we went to the regional round which was held at our school. On the first day, we had debates. During our first debate, I was so stressed and so were my team members, but when we started to do the debates we realized that we were not so bad and we ended up doing pretty well. At school we debated with our friends to practice. While we were debating with our friends at school, it was hard to debate with them since we know each other so well. At the tournament, after the debates, the hardest part was writing as a team. It is hard to put your thoughts down on paper. I prefer talking. The second day was really fun because there was a scholar’s talent show where everyone got to show off what they were good at in front of the crowd. After that, we had an award ceremony, and then the weekend was over. World Scholar’s Cup helped us achieve great things and was a wonderful experience. Nehir AKKOCA I joined the WSC because I thought that it was going to be fun and it turned out to be so much more. I learned lots of things from this interesting club. I also improved my English skills by learning how to debate properly. Also, I improved my writing skills. This club was just amazing! You should try it if you haven’t yet.
