33 Seda USTAOĞLU This year in WSC, my team and I participated in the İzmir regional round. It was held at our school, and it was really fun. We won all three of our debates, and it was a great experience. The best part was kind of hard for me, but I think I learned from my mistakes. Next year, I’m thinking of participating again because while I was there, I felt so happy and I think that this is where I belong. Yes, I am taking care of my alpaca and we are really excited for the global rounds, which is going to be held in The Hague. I will make sure to prepare more this time ;) Selin HABİF We attended the World Scholar’s Cup İzmir round. It was so fun. The first day we debated and we took part in three different parts of the tournament. During the essay writing part we all had to write about different topics (I wrote about Facebook :) ). We also completed a 125-question test (very hard). The second day, we played clickers and watched the debate showcase and the talent show. It was so fun too. During the closing ceremony, we received our medals and learned we will go the global round in The Hague this summer. Zeynep SEL The İzmir round was very fun. I learned a lot of new things, and I made a lot of new friends. I got an alpaca which is very cute and pink. I enjoyed WSC a lot because my friends were there with me. For those of you who know me, hopefully, you can tell how much I enjoyed myself at the İzmir round from the smile on my face. Nazlı UNUSTASI On the 15th and 16th of December we went to the WSC İzmir Round. It was at our school. I think it was really great and I had so much fun. It was my best experience in my life ever. On the first day we went to school at 8:00am. I was very nervous. At 9:00am we had an opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony they talked about what the World Scholar’s Cup is. Then at 10:45am we had our team debates. It was the most difficult and the most exciting part of the competition I think. My team and I won 1 debate and we lost 2 debates. It was not that bad. Next was lunch and afterwards we had Collaborative Writing. I did very well in the writing. I chose to write about the Special Area. Last, we had the Scholar’s Challenge which helped me to get a gold medal. The second day we had the Scholar’s Bowl. The scholar’s Bowl is something like Kahoot but very hard. My team and I did very well. At about 1:30pm we watched the Debate Showcase. At Debate Showcase they chose the best debaters from different schools to come to the stage and debate a new topic in front of everyone. After the Debate Showcase we had Scholar’s Show which was the best part of the weekend. It was very fun to watch. Last, we had the Awards Ceremony. It was so exciting. I won 1 gold and 3 silver medals. Our school in total got 248 medals and 7 trophies. I think that’s very good. From this club I learned a lot of things like how to be a good debater. It was the best weekend I have ever had. Please let me say thank you to my teachers. Pwaa! Nehir ÖZENER The World Scholar’s Cup tournament was a great experience. It was fun and an educational experience where we competed in many different areas such as debates and scholar’s cup. It wasn’t just the challenges, but also the atmosphere and the people there who were so friendly that made it special. We also got a chance to feel so proud representing our school and welcoming scholars from around Turkey to our school. We watched a talent show where scholars showed off their various talents. Last but not least, we got alpacas - the best part of the tournament! The experience was amazing with the help of scholars from all over our country.
