54 How did you feel when we played the Animal Race Game? Luca RAGUSIN I felt so happy. I liked roaring like a lion. It was funny. LearnIng Through Movement: Anımals and Theır Natural HabItats Research over the past years has shown that doing yoga effects the stress relieving power on students and adding movement to learning experience stimulates children’s thinking ultimately making learning more fun and engaging. Therefore, our Pre-Kindergarteners took an imaginary journey to the rainforests and African Savannah to learn about animals and their natural habitats. While we were listening to rainforest music, we did yoga and used our senses to bring the rainforest atmosphere into our classroom. We followed the same method for the African Savannah too. We learned some breathing techniques and yoga poses such as pretending to be a toucan, a monkey, a waterfall, and an eagle in order to feel as if we were really in a rainforest and African Savannah. We explored the rainforests and the animals that live there by having discussions, reading books and completing related activities such as “Animal Race Game” and art projects. The students loved decorating a hippo and making a craft work on toucans. They learned many interesting facts about these two animals. The “Animal Race Game” was one of our favorites because students got to move like animals in the garden. They ran like tigers, jumped like kangaroos and swam like crocodiles. At SEV we give great importance to active and meaningful learning. Here is what our students said about our fun activities: Ceylan Dükel
