58 THE GREATEST WEALTH IS HEALTH During our second semester, the Kindergarten classes covered a dazzling variety of themes including foods, vegetables and fruits, hygiene, and being healthy. In our Kindergarten classes one of our themes were ‘Being healthy’. Our little kindergarteners learned a variety of foods, fruits and vegetables. But the most important thing they learned was what is healthy and unhealthy for their bodies. We discovered new recipes like ‘Energy balls’, and ‘Fruit jelly’. We had great fun whilst making and eating them. We also played the ‘Fruit taste’ game which was mind blowing because their eyes were blindfolded and they had to taste and guess the fruit. Also, they observed, touched, and smelled real vegetables. Most of our students did not like the smell of celery. During this theme we created lots of crafts such as vegetables and fruits, and a bowl out of clay. Fruit cut outs filled with colourful crepe paper, fruit and vegetable prints, planting a radish seed, lunch box crafts, healthy plates, and fruit and vegetable face portraits were just a few more activities we completed. Through these crafts and activities we developed our fine motor skills, creative thinking skills and vocabulary. Finally, we were able to tell eachother what food we like and don’t like, and what we always, and never eat. We also learned that vegetables are healthy for our bodies and that junk food wasn’t. We also did a fruit survey by asking our friends in class what fruits they like or didn’t like. In our survey we discovered that the majority of the class likes apples the most. We had great fun singing and dancing to the vegetable song. This theme was one of the best. “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own Ruhsar Tümay Çelik
