84 Yeşim Üzüm GRADE 1 ENGLISH READ ALOUD Reading is one of the most important activity teachers and parents can do with their students. It builds important skills such as fluency, comprehension, critical thinking and vocabulary. Most importantly, reading helps children build a love for reading and a reading life. In our Grade 1 library lessons, we love reading books and completing related activities. It is a journey we take by listening, discussing, and following the story as it is read aloud. Pictures help students visualize the story and characters. During this activity, teachers model how a story can be read and how questions can be asked whilst reading. When students share their thinking, predictions and questions, it turns into a very interactive activity. Most importantly, it sets a strong foundation for a reading life.
