86 Claire Connery ‘Our World’ At SEV, we are very proud to be a CIS accredited school. As part of being an internationally accredited school, we find it very important to be multicultural and to guide our students to being global citizens. In our English lessons, we like to explore the world around us. We learn about many countries and their cultures, too. Every time we start a new unit, we learn a lot of great things. We learn how to read and write new words, we play games and sing songs, but the best thing is that we always get to see a different place or country from around the world. We read stories about children from these countries. Sometimes, we know about the new country and sometimes we need to find it on the map. It’s fun to see new and exciting places. Students have seen some really interesting places and things, such as, a Chinese school, a big family from Mexico, a river house in Serbia, different clothes from all around the world and even a Teddy bear museum. We have also learned important festivals and celebrations from around the world. We are taught what people in other countries do on these special days, what food they eat and what clothes they wear. Students take part in the celebrations and activities from their classrooms and see how similar and different some cultures are. Even our school kitchen prepared us a variety of different foods from around the world. Our favourite was definitely Irish potato soup! This year we celebrated Halloween, New Year’s day, Teacher’s day, Valentines day, Irish Day and Children’s day. Yasemin Ela ESKİŞAR ‘Mrs. Claire taught us about her country Ireland. I loved watching Irish Dancing and seeing the festivals in the streets. Maybe someday I can go to Ireland. ’ Demir KAHRAMAN ‘My favourite festival was Halloween. I wore a pirate costume. We had a party and we listened to Halloween songs and stories. It was a fun day. ’ Eren Neşe ŞENMAN ‘We learned about lots of different countries. My favourite country was Mexico. They have nice food and clothes there. ’ Belen DOĞAN ‘I really liked learning about all the different houses from around the world. We saw houses from Africa, America, Thailand, Alaska and many more. My favourite house was the house in the middle of the river. ’
