18 S E V E C E N 2 0 2 0 Sırma Göknur JMUN VALMUN 19 Junior Model United Nations also known as JMUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, recent affairs and the United Nations. JMUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It is a way to become an active, more concerned global citizen, while in this era of globalization, being globally aware is more important than ever. Baran ÖLMEZ Hello! Have you ever felt like you’ll never succeed in something but eventually make it through? I don’t know about you but I felt like this when I first joined JMUN. JMUN is a serious club that needs a lot of serious work. My first conference was VALMUN, which took place in the American School of Valencia, Spain. The main theme of the conference was ‘Establishing a global agreement in security in order to ensure a politically and socially stable world for future generations’. On the first day of the conference, I couldn’t talk at all because I was embarrassed. There were so many native speakers and they spoke so fluently. On the first day, our team didn’t talk a lot. However, the second day was different. I decided to participate as much as I can, and I did! I felt proud of myself because I was raising my hand a lot. We also had the chance to see the city of Valencia. We went to a traditional restaurant. There were a lot of delicious food. Then, we went sightseeing. In my opinion, one of the best places that we went to was the Science Museum. There were a lot of cool stuff and the planetarium was awesome. We watched an amazing movie on volcanoes at the IMAX Dome Theater. I had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to our new conference!
