S E V E C E N 2 0 2 0  219 Life in Afghanistan is hard, and it is especially hard for women. Women can’t go out, dress up, or go to school. Only boys go to school, but they don’t get a proper education either. We decided that the end should be a happy ending because the character has gone through very bad experiences. They deserve happiness. We made them create a life on the island with the other Afghans. Bibi becomes a football player like she always wanted. We realized how lucky we are when we read about Afghanistan. We looked from their perspective at their own lives and it hurt our feelings in some important ways so we wanted to make it better. We changed the ending by making them not give up and having them survive – we wanted them to have a happier life than they were going to have. We enjoyed the book a lot and enjoyed working on their new life in our project. We learned how hard it is to be a girl in Afghanistan. You can’t leave your house and girls don’t have a say in anything and they cannot express their opinions. We are so lucky and grateful to Atat rk that we have a life like this. Our ending is sad, and we got took inspiration from some movies. In our ending, the mother kills herself because she doesn’t want to live a life without her husband. Then Jamal leaves his sister Bibi and Andrew adopts Bibi so she has a good life. We are so lucky to live a life like this, but some of us don’t know the worth of the place we live in.
