Kindergarten students covered a variety of topics including school, feelings, and body parts. For the sub-theme “My body” we decided to form a robot. Our kindergarten students first learned parts of the body with activities, songs, games, flashcards, and stories. After all the singing and games in class, students were able to form a sentence using the vocabulary words they have learned. Then for our craft activity we decided to have students create their very own 3D robot. Students brought in boxes and toilet paper rolls from home to create their robots. Our Kindergarten students were put into groups of three. This also helped students collaborate together. Then, students used the materials and started to create their robots from scratch. Together with the materials they brought to school some covered their robots body with foil, glitter eva, and colourful crepe paper. They used pipe cleaners for the robots ears and antennas. The students enjoyed creating their robots. Then, after all the hard work our class was full of different sized colourful robots. Robots with long legs, small and big mouths with teeth, big and small noses, and long arms with their very own hand cut outs. After students presented their robots to their friends. Finally, we decided to have our robots speak in English so we integrated our craft activity with the Ipads. We used the app Morfo. Students took photos of their robots. Then they placed the eyes, nose, and mouth on the photo they took. After all these steps they recorded their voice introducing the colour, and how many eyes, mouth, nose, ears, and antennas they have. After saving the recording they listened to it and were amazed to see that the robot they had created was speaking with their very own voice. Students were very creative in this activity. Some even expressed their robots feelings. Overall, students really enjoyed the activity, especially integrating I-pads with the activity was exciting for them. “Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.” -Albert Einstein
