We are in a new school, we have new friends, we have a new classroom and lots of new teachers, but, most excitingly we are starting to learn how to read and write. We are on the first step of our school life and we are very eager to learn all the skills that will help us become great students. It can sometimes seem confusing that we have so much things to learn, but our teachers are guiding us throughout this journey. The most important thing we are learning are the sounds of the English alphabet and some of the tricky sight words. Sometimes the letter sounds are different than in Turkish and sometimes we see brand new letters too. We are trying very hard to remember how they are different. Every week our teacher teaches us one new sound and one new sight word. We learn how to join the sounds together to read words and how to listen and write words too. We can make sentences with the sight words that we have learned and we can even read some books already. Our teachers always gives us a lot of time to do activities or projects with our new words and sounds. We do reading and dictation activities, partner and individual work, and we really love completing the listening activities on the iPads. We are on the first steps of our reading journey and we can’t wait to learn more skills that will help us keep moving up. Nehir DUBAN I like to write English words and sentences. Biricik KESKINOĞLU My favourite activity is reading books and listening to stories. Mete TAŞ It’s fun to use the iPads to help us practice our sounds and words. Ayhan ASLAN I love doing partner work with my friends.
