It is marked throughout the country with a moment of silence. The surname Atat rk was granted to him in which means “Father of Turks”. Atat rk was the leader of the Turkish National Movement in the Turkish War of Independence. He established the Republic of Turkey in 1923 and became the first president. Atat rk’s reforms helped Turkey to be a modern and secular state. In our library lesson we made Turkish flags by using mosaic technique and attached a crescent and star to complete our flag.
